We had an editorial shoot entitled #SuperProfesh in which we highlighted various powerful women and their fashion choices, their inspiration, and what made them tick. I went and spoke to Kweighbaye, a woman of color who was tirelessly spearheading showcasing fresh talent in the very white, male world of production. She is a powerhouse who started The Bushwick Film Festival, who loves movies and film, who came from an immigrant family and works incredibly hard to create this festival year after year. After speaking to her, I based her look off of strength, directing, her love of Bushwick, Old Hollywood, and old film. I wanted to showcase the fact that she was here, she belonged here, and if she could do it, so could others. I also wanted to incorporate fun nods, like having her recreate an iconic photo of Alfred Hitchcock’s or incorporating film overlays into the photo processing.
